The core concepts had been developing since 2000, the first commercial podcast client software was developed in 2001. Although many include a directory of high-profile podcasts, they generally allow users to manually subscribe directly to a feed by providing the URL.

Some of these podcast clients can also automate the transfer of received audio files to a portable media player. While podcast clients are best known for streaming and downloading podcasts, many are also capable of downloading video, newsfeeds, text, and pictures.

You can help by adding missing items with reliable sources.Ī podcast client, or podcatcher, is a computer program used to stream or download podcasts, usually via an RSS or XML feed. And/or I could schedule gPodder to run over night. This is a dynamic list and may never be able to satisfy particular standards for completeness.

Having gPodder on the Pi would cut-out this unnecessary step (and might even make gPodder less tortoise-like).

My rationale for getting gPodder on the Pi is that gPodder is grindingly slow on my PC and it only passes the podcasts on to the Pi. I use the Pi as a household back-up and as a music server. I then expect to view gPodder in a PC browser on my home network, in the same way that I see/control my Squeezebox Server (Logitech Media Server (LMS)) through a browser. Regarding the two subsequent points, I am talking to the Pi over PuTTY and WinSCP.
